Census data helps determine the funding the Kimberley receives over the next five years.
An accurate count gives decision-makers a clearer picture of:

- where services are most needed

2021 Census undercount.
In the last Census, the number of people in the Kimberley was undercounted. Some people didn’t fill out their forms, didn’t put down accurate information about how many people were in their home on Census night, or didn’t include visitors or babies on the form. Some visitors or temporary workers did not fill out a form in the Kimberley and were counted elsewhere.

Is my information confidential?
Census information is confidential by law. Your answers cannot be seen by any other government department, police, employers, or landlords, and you can’t get in trouble about information you put on the Census form.
When can I fill out my form?
Even though Census night is on Tuesday 11 August, you can fill out the form before or after this date and up until Sunday 20 September 2026.
Most Kimberley residents will have a form delivered to their home by Census staff.
Temporary, FIFO and seasonal workers
If you work in the Kimberley for six months and one day or more, you must use your Kimberley address as your usual place of residence. This applies even if your family lives elsewhere, or you own or rent in another town or city. If you are a seasonal worker staying in the Kimberley for less than six months, you must still complete a form in the Kimberley.
Remote communities and stations.
Census staff are visiting remote communities and pastoral stations to distribute forms and make sure everyone is counted. They can help complete the form and ensure the information is accurate.
What you need to know about completing your Census form.
Census night is Tuesday 11 August 2026. This date isn’t your only chance to complete, if you know where you are going to be on 11 August it can be done before, or up until 20 September. You can complete the Census online, on paper, at home, or at camp.
